She currently serves as an associate dean in the College of Arts and Sciences and was named the 2013 Connecticut Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.

She is the author of books on Joan Didion and Gloria Naylor as well as more than 15 peer-reviewed articles in literature, psychology and composition/writing. She is an alumna of Sacred Heart and has been a faculty member for more than 40 years.
SHU President John J. Petillo has announced a nationwide search for a new dean of the College. He has appointed a search committee to be chaired by James Castonguay, director of SHU’s master’s in communication program. It is anticipated that the new dean will be in place for the beginning of the fall semester.
