Sacred Heart University Announces 2012 Homecoming Plans
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart University’s Office of Alumni Relations has announced plans for this year’s annual Homecoming Weekend. With a theme of “Spread the Red,” Homecoming 2012 will take place September 28-30.
The weekend will kick off Friday morning at 10 a.m. with the Alumni Association Annual Meeting in the Pitt Center board room on campus. The Alumni Awards Luncheon will take place in the University Commons at 12:30 p.m. at a cost of $15/person. Friday’s activities conclude with a kickoff reception celebrating graduation years ending in 2 and 7. That event will cost $15 (includes food and alcoholic drink tickets) and will be held in Red’s Pub in the new Linda McMahon Commons on campus.
At 10:30 a.m. on Saturday in the Schine Auditorium, Dr. Gary Rose, chair of SHU’s Government and Politics Department, will present a lecture for the Alumni College event, entitled The 2012 Presidential Election: Issues, Candidates and Why it Matters. We welcome all alumni and students for this exciting event that will showcase Rose’s exceptional expertise in political science and the changing political landscape.
From 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, alumni who were involved with The Spectrum and Obelisk newspapers, the Prologue Yearbook or the La Hispanidad organization are invited to a complimentary reception in University Commons. It will be a chance to reminisce as well as to connect with the students currently involved in those organizations.
The Alumni Tent Event, held in conjunction with the football game against Central Connecticut State University, will take place from noon to 3:30 p.m. in the William H. Pitt Center picnic area, behind the end zone. Advanced tickets are $25 for adults, $10 for children 12-17 and complimentary for children under 12. The cost includes a $10 donation to the Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, food, two beer tickets, children’s games and crafts, a cash bar, the annual SHU giveaway item and a great view of the game. Space permitting, game day tickets will be sold for $30; however we strongly recommend that you register online. No tailgating will be permitted by alumni as the Alumni Tent Event will serve as the main event on Saturday, September 29, 2012.
The weekend will conclude on Sunday with the Alumni Mass at 12:30 p.m. in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, followed by an art tour of the Chapel and a small reception in the narthex.
“Our goal is to provide a family friendly weekend where alumni of all years have a chance to connect with old friends,” said Emily Gillette, director of Alumni Relations. “We tried to create a schedule where there is plenty to do, but there is also time to make your own plans with friends and fellow alumni. We hope everyone will come out to see the changes on campus – in particular our beautiful new student commons – and to have a fun weekend!”
