News Story: December 21, 2012

Sacred Heart University has been named one of the country’s 294 Colleges of Distinction. Colleges of Distinction is a college guide that looks for schools that give students the best opportunity to learn, grow and succeed. The four distinctive characteristics they look for are engaged students, great teaching, vibrant community and successful outcomes.

The goal of Colleges of Distinction is to provide students, counselors and parents with information about schools that excel in their quality of teaching, success of graduates and atmosphere on campus. Institutions chosen offer a holistic approach and continually excel in providing a strong undergraduate education while holding a national reputation. Schools are selected with the help of college admissions experts from around the country and interviews with faculty and staff.

Colleges of Distinction places a strong emphasis on finding schools where students are taught by real professors; offer a wide variety of learning experiences; have an active campus that allows for personal development and are well known for generating successful graduates. Colleges of Distinction focuses on the success of a colleges’ future by looking for trends in the data, rather than seeing a college as a static institution.

“We are honored to be named among the Colleges of Distinction. The four characteristics that they look for are among our hallmarks, and it is good to have our efforts validated,” said Sacred Heart University President John J. Petillo.
