Sacred Heart University professor and author Gary L. Rose, Ph.D., has published a new book that is an in-depth study of the Connecticut’s Fourth Congressional District, located in Fairfield County, Connecticut.

This is the 10th book for Rose, a long-time professor and chair of the University’s Department of Government and Politics. The book is titled Connecticut's Fourth Congressional District: History, Politics and the Maverick Tradition. Dr. Rose describes it as “a microcosm of emerging political trends currently taking place within the context of congressional politics, particularly in the New England region.”

In writing the book, Dr. Rose drew on his 30 years of experience commenting for journalists on the congressional campaigns waged in the fourth district. His role as a professor at a University located in the district has provided him the opportunity to meet key political figures, to place student interns within their offices and to closely observe the dynamics of the district’s electoral campaigns.

“The trends I discovered in this empirical study have relevance well beyond the borders of the fourth district. Moreover, my case study should serve as an educational resource for those who are interested in knowing more about the history, political culture and the maverick style of those individuals who have represented the fourth district in Congress from World War II to the present,” Dr. Rose said.

John Kenneth White of the Catholic University of America praises Dr. Rose’s new volume, saying “When Gary Rose writes something, it is something special. That is true here. What Rose has done is give the reader a thorough examination of one very special Connecticut congressional district. He gives the reader a full-length version of the fourth district and its history, rather than the abridged version that appears yearly in The Almanac of American Politics.”

Other publications by Rose include Shaping a Nation: Twenty-Five Supreme Court Cases that Changed the United States and Connecticut Government and Politics: An Introduction.
