SHU Appoints Dr. Gavin Ferriby University Librarian

Dr. Gavin Ferriby

Dr. Peter (Gavin) Ferriby has been named the librarian of Sacred Heart University’s Ryan-Matura Library.  He began his service at the University in 2006, first as associate librarian, and since 2009, as interim University librarian.  In his new role, he will lead library service for all patrons and the planning for the library going forward.
 
A native of Michigan, Dr. Ferriby is an alumnus of Hope College with a bachelor's degree in Classics.  He later studied at Princeton Theological Seminary (M.Div. in 1980 and a Ph.D. in 2000) and earned his library degree from the School of Library Service, Columbia University, in 1987.  He has previously served Drew University, Princeton University, Brown University, Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York, and Muhlenberg College as librarian.
 
His particular area of scholarly research is the history of Christianity with an emphasis on the history of Christian worship and on medieval studies.  He also serves the University as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies, where he teaches the history of American Christian movements.
 
Dr. Ferriby resides in Hamden, Connecticut.
