Sacred Heart University has named Dr. David L. Coppola the Vice President for Strategic Planning and Administration. In this expanded role, he will help implement the University’s strategic plan, and will coordinate master space planning, asset and property acquisition, capital projects and renovations, management and coordination of all external use of University property, as well as maintenance and infrastructure replacement. He will also oversee institutional research and the Center for Christian-Jewish Understanding, and will assist the President with special projects.

A resident of Wilton, Dr. Coppola joined SHU in July of 1998 as Director of Conferences and Publications in the Center for Christian-Jewish Understanding. In October of 2000, he assumed the additional role of Executive Assistant to the President.  In that position, he supported the President by assisting with the managing of the University’s Mission and Strategic Plan. In July of 2006, Dr. Coppola was promoted to Assistant Vice President for Administration.

Michael J. Kinney, the University’s Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration, praised Dr. Coppola’s depth of knowledge and experience. “In his more than 11 years at Sacred Heart, he has taken a leadership role in virtually every aspect of the University’s life and mission. He has held numerous administrative and strategic planning responsibilities, but throughout it all, he remains a dedicated and gifted educator whose number one concern is our students and the quality of their experience here.”

Dr. Coppola holds a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from Seton Hall University; bachelor’s and master’s degrees in theology from St. Mary’s University; and his Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Fordham University. He is an instructor of Religious Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences.
