SHU's Department of Public Safety to Hold EMT-B Class

News Story: December 1, 2010

Sacred Heart University’s Department of Public Safety, in conjunction with the Echo Hose Ambulance Training Center of Shelton, CT, will be conducting an EMT-B class on the Fairfield campus of Sacred Heart University.  Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00pm-10:00pm, and every other Saturday from January 24-May 2, 2011. The Class will cost $575.00. This includes text books and class materials.

Emergency Medical Technician- Basic (EMT-B) is an EMT who has training in basic emergency care skills, including automated external defibrillation, use of a definitive airway adjunct, and assisting patients with certain medications.  Participation in this course provides this training as well as eligibility to take the State of Connecticut EMT-B practical and written exam (upon successful completion) of the class.

EMTs are employed in varied settings ranging from industrial and entertainment first aid positions to hospital and health care settings, and the pre-hospital environment. The pre-hospital environment is loosely divided into non-emergency (e.g. hospital discharges) and emergency (9-1-1 calls) services, but many ambulance services operate both non-emergency and emergency care.
