News Story: August 1, 2010

In its 2010 edition of America’s Best Colleges, U.S. News Media Group has placed Sacred Heart University 33rd among the top master’s level colleges and universities in the North. The rankings, which include more than 1,400 schools nationwide, are available online at www.usnews.com/colleges and in the September issue of U.S. News & World Report magazine.

Sacred Heart University, which was recently highlighted in the College Access and Opportunity Guide for its outreach to traditionally underserved student populations, enrolls more than 6,000 students in dozens of degree programs ranging from the associate’s level to the doctorate. The University was also recently ranked among the best in The Princeton Review’s 2011 edition of “The Best 373 Colleges” and in its book “"The Best Northeastern Colleges: 2011 Edition." In addition, SHU ranked #18 on the “Best College Radio Station” list by The Princeton Review.

In September, the University will welcome its largest and most gifted freshman class in history, with more than a thousand first-year students and 150 transfer students. Among important academic initiatives this fall will be a Doctor of Nursing Practice program that will join Sacred Heart’s thriving Doctor of Physical Therapy program, launched in 2004. In May, the University broke ground for a new Student Commons that will house numerous functions including the University Bookstore and a new dining center.
