New Haven Symphony Orchestra to Perform 'Ritual Incantations' at Edgerton Center

News Story: September 28, 2009

The New Haven Symphony Orchestra will perform ‘Ritual Incantations’ at Sacred Heart University’s Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday, October 13 at 7pm. William Boughton will conduct the concert. The event is sponsored by the League of American Orchestras, Meet the Composer and WSHU Public Radio.

The year 1812 was a pivotal year in history with wars between Britain, America, France and Russia—did Beethoven know about these when writing his 7th Symphony? In this program we welcome Music Alive Composers-in-Residence—Jin Hi Kim in a new NHSO Commission for komungo and percussion and Augusta Read Thomas’s beautiful Ritual Incantations featuring the outstanding young cellist, Mihai Marica.

The featured performances will include:

Kim: NORI III for Percussion Quartet and Electric Komungo
Mozart: Symphony No. 32 in G Major, K318

Thomas: Ritual Incantations for Cello & Orchestra
Beethoven: Symphony No. 7 in A Major, Op. 92
