Welch COB to Address Financial Industry Regulations

Sacred Heart University will host a timely panel discussion entitled, “Potential Impact of Proposed Regulations on the Financial Industry” on Thursday, November 12, in University Commons. The 6:30 P.M. event is co-sponsored by the University’s John F. Welch College of Business and the Stamford Chapter of the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Institute. There will be a Q&A session following the presentations and refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.
 
Panelists include Ray Quinlan, former chairman & CEO of Retail Distribution North America, a business unit of Citigroup Inc.; and Kurt Schacht, managing director of the CFA Institute’s Centre for Financial Market Integrity. The forum will be moderated by Bridget Lyons, associate professor of finance at the Welch College of Business.
 
Mr. Quinlan, a private consultant since 2007, spent twenty-four years at Citigroup in various positions, including chairman & CEO of Retail Distribution North America for Citigroup, Inc., managing director of Mergers and Acquisitions Execution for Citigroup Inc. and earlier, CEO of the International Cards Division for Citigroup, Inc. He earned his MBA from Columbia University and his Ph.D. in Economics from the City University of New York. He is currently a board member of the Doral Financial Corporation and is a member of the Silverfern Advisory Board.

Prior to joining CFA Institute, Mr. Schacht has been involved in the investment management business since 1990, serving as chief operating officer for a retail mutual complex in White Plains, NY, general counsel and COO for a Manhattan based hedge fund and as chief legal officer for the State of Wisconsin Investment Board (SWIB) in Madison, WI. Mr. Schacht has an extensive background in securities law and regulation, alternative investments, hedge funds, financial reporting and corporate governance matters. He is a member of the Investor Advisory Committee to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Dr. Lyons teaches financial management and corporate finance and promotes and coordinates experiential learning activities for the Welch College of Business. She is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Georgetown University and received a M.S. in Finance from Columbia University, and a Doctorate of Professional Studies with a concentration in Finance from Pace University, where she was the recipient of the Outstanding Doctoral Student award. She provides consulting and training services in corporate finance and financial modeling through her own consulting firm and her affiliation with Adkins, Matchett & Toy, Ltd., a firm specializing in training for investment bankers.
 
The Welch COB previously hosted public forums on the global financial crisis in October 2008 and another for investors in May 2009.
