SHU Development Officer Honored by Diocese of Bridgeport

News Story: December 21, 2008

Franey Donovan, Jr., a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Wilton, was honored by the Diocese of Bridgeport recently for service to his parish and the larger Catholic community. Donovan, a development officer in Sacred Heart University’s Division of Institutional Advancement, is a longtime member of the parish. He was among 99 Catholics in Fairfield County who were presented the Saint Augustine Medal of Service. Among his contributions to the parish, he was cited for organizing the hourly teams of worshippers who participate in the First Friday devotions in the church each month.

Bridgeport’s Bishop William E. Lori presented the awards for exceptional service to parishioners and outstanding representatives of Catholic Charities and Catholic education in the Diocese. He told a packed Cathedral of Saint Augustine that this year’s recipients represent the “goodness and generosity of so many of our fellow Catholics who, day in and day out, give of themselves in love.” Saint Augustine, for whom the cathedral in Bridgeport is named, is patron of the Diocese of Bridgeport.
